On May 29th, we had an incredible night with the opening event of the fifth edition of Living Places. One of the highlights was the presentation of the official video for this edition, created by Rene Baptista, Tito Sánchez, and RA!Arquitectos.
In the last edition of the Simon Architecture Prize, RA! received a special mention for their video of the project “Taquería Los Alexis” in Mexico City, being recognized as “Best Audiovisual Narrative.” Thanks to this achievement, the studio was selected to create the launch video for the new call, titled “El Luchador.”
The story unfolds in a historic building, the Agustín Hernández Architecture Workshop in Mexico City, where a young dreamer enters to live out his greatest fantasy: becoming a wrestler while facing unexpected events. Featuring professional wrestler Guerrero Águila Tule, the short film highlights the power of dream spaces to make their inhabitants’ wishes come true through exceptional narrative.
The Living Places – Simon Architecture Prize is an initiative by the Simon firm curated by the Fundació Mies van der Rohe since its inception in 2016, in commemoration of Simon’s centenary. Since then, architecture studios from over 23 countries have participated in the competition, reaffirming its international relevance.
The purpose of this recognition is to distinguish architectural projects (including interiors, public spaces, and landscaping) whose excellence enhances the ability of spaces to provide comfort to their inhabitants. Works that improve people’s quality of life in their day-to-day lives: for working, learning, sharing, enjoying… Architectures to be lived in!
The nomination period for the prize is now open! So I encourage you to visit simonprize.org to nominate a lived-in space.
